Reacher Season 4 Episode 4
Reacher has already come out of alive from a subway suicide, a CIA cage fight, a wasp-spray fight, and a swan dive from a roof by a chief of staff for a senator, yet Episode 4 manages to somehow come up with new ways to ruin everyone’s week. In case you have just watched Episode 4 titled “Karambits and Pieces,” then this is a reminder of Episodes 1-3 as well as some predictions for Episode 5.
Reacher Season 4 Episodes 1-3 Recap
If you’ve forgotten more about remembering than Reacher remembers about the shoes size of some stranger, then let me give you the condensed summary.
In Episode 1, “City of Brotherly Love,” Reacher is riding the late night Philadelphia subway, where he spots a troubled woman who might be armed. He attempts to calm her down, but instead she ends up shooting herself. The woman in question, Anna Merrick, is found to be a government employee, whose business concerns sensitive Pentagon materials, and her death puts her on the radar of federal agents searching for a missing flash drive. Reacher gets involved with Anna’s brother, Jacob, a cop who believes his sister couldn’t have just killed herself, and together they try to uncover information about Senator John Sampson, whose name keeps popping up. In addition, Reacher finds out that Sampson is supposedly the father of Lila Hoth, who’s battling leukemia.
It is shown that the captors are CIA in Episode 2: “Cage Fight.” Reacher takes everybody out of their cages with the help of a car jack, and is rescued from there by Russell Plum, a freelance journalist, who had been watching the building since he believed that it was a black site. Reacher makes Sampson confront him, but he denies everything and offers to provide his DNA sample right away. Tamara and Jacob learn that Anna’s flat has been burgled, and her son Ben has gone missing. The episode closes when Reacher meets Nolan Cahill, Sampson’s chief of staff.
Episode 3 begins with Russell’s apartment being raided by armed men, as Russell makes false claims on the internet that he found the flash drive. These men aren’t from the CIA, and as evidence, they kill the CIA agents who have come for him. The Ben investigation leads them to a dead witness, Mary Ellen Daniels, suggesting that this conspiracy doesn’t want to leave anything loose. Finally, Reacher gets the information from Lila at a bowling alley; her claims of having cancer become false, and she reveals herself to be a journalist researching allegations about how Sampson’s old military team trained a violent commander of foreign troops, General Putra, who was responsible for civilian massacres.
This is where Episode 4 begins with a dead chief of staff, a missing nephew, a case of leukemia that has been debunked and a senator who is either being smeared or is hiding something sinister.

Reacher Season 4 Episode 4 Recap
With Cahill now dead and the whole investigation completely exposed, Episode 4 sees Reacher and his team split into several groups in an attempt to follow every clue, and all of them lead to something worse.
Reacher goes for the straightforward method, of course, and decides to question Sampson personally. With his chief of staff recently killed in rather suspicious circumstances, Sampson is unable to pretend to be the innocent politician like he was able to do in Episode 2, and tells the truth about Indonesia. According to him, his old team was dispatched there along with a group of scientists who were studying rainforest flora, and the mission then expanded into training special forces of Indonesia, including a soldier by the name of Putra, who went on to become a war criminal mentioned earlier in the episode. And now comes the big revelation: Sampson confesses that it was him who hired the mercenaries trying to capture Reacher to lure the flash drive out of him so that the Pentagon could get their hands on it.
As Reacher goes about his business with Sampson, Tamara runs amok in the very best sense of the word. She and Jacob and Russell discover the facility where government documents are being destroyed, and Tamara steals the parking permit of a worker to gain entry into the facility. Once there, she has access to the computer records of Anna and makes a very frightening discovery in which she finds out that the particular document associated with Anna’s research was destroyed and not uploaded onto the government’s server, which means that the only copy of everything Anna might have known was stored in the missing flash drive.
On the other hand, Jacob gets a severe gut punch during this episode when he discovers that his nephew, Ben, was killed using a karambit, a knife from Indonesia associated with Indonesian martial arts. The medical examiner finds the knife to be the exact same as the one that killed the young woman named Mary Ellen Daniels in Episode 3.
The biggest twist of the entire episode lies in the flash drive itself. It is discovered by the team that Anna seems to have sent it via mail to the hotel where Lila Hoth was staying before her death. But, when Reacher rushes there in hopes of getting his hands on it, the flash drive is gone. Instead, what Reacher discovers is something that is much, much worse – armed attackers lying dead, their throats slit, and Lila’s supposed mother, Amisha Hoth, standing there with a curved knife. Before Reacher can figure out what just happened, the police show up and discover Reacher standing there with the bodies, placing him directly in the path of arrest.
Almost everything about the board changes in “Karambits and Pieces.” Sampson has finally admitted to wrongdoing, but is still claiming to be the good guy. Tamara has violated a serious legal boundary to get her information. Jacob has been confirmed that his family’s killers are still alive. And the flash drive that everyone has been trying to get their hands on throughout the entire series, since the pilot episode, is lost, having last been seen in the hands of Amisha Hoth.
What Episode 5 Is Confirmed to Set Up
The fifth episode, “Bridge,” is scheduled for release on August 26, and one thing different about this episode compared to the others is the synopsis by Prime Video that has been provided for us to know before we start making our own speculations. Based on the synopsis, Reacher ends up becoming the most wanted man in Philadelphia due to some misunderstanding because he was found standing next to some dead bodies at the end of the fourth episode.
Reacher Season 4 Episode 5 Predictions
Apart from those that have been officially revealed, this is where the series seems to be heading. This is purely speculative and nothing more than guesswork.
Speculation 1: Reacher runs while searching for the drive. Being Philadelphia’s most wanted man does not impede Reacher in his efforts at all. He will continue to investigate the case even while dodging the very authorities that he had initially been collaborating with.
Speculation 2: The knife that Amisha has becomes an important part of the plot. In such a carefully thought out show, a woman with the exact same knife with which Ben and Mary Ellen Daniels were murdered cannot be ignored. Episode 5 will begin to unravel how deep the link between Amisha and Lila really is to Indonesia.
Prediction 3: Revenge comes at a cost for Jacob. While the synopsis does point out that Jacob will have his time to get back at whoever killed his sister and nephew, it looks like it will happen at a price that could become a point of contention between him and Reacher about how far is too far.
Prediction 4: There is even more to Sampson’s lies than he let on. Coming forward about hiring the mercenaries to kill his enemies might seem to be enough, but don’t expect that to be the end of it. Pressure is going to keep building for him to finally come clean about what he knew of Putra’s actions.
Prediction 5: Tamara’s little stunt catches up to her. Tamara did some questionable things in her efforts to find answers and save the president. It’s pretty likely to catch up to her and create more problems than she already had coming her way by Episode 5.
Final Thoughts
The fourth episode, Reacher Season 4 is done and dusted with the focus being away from the individual mystery of a woman’s death and is all about an elaborate conspiracy with a Senator, a foreign war criminal, an entire army of mercenary troops, and a flash drive everybody but those who need to get hold of it are after. “Karambits and Pieces” upped the ante by adding actual culpability on Sampson’s part, making the violence very personal to Jacob and leaving Reacher with a pile of bodies.
When “Bridge” comes out on August 26, and Reacher is already established as Philadelphia’s most wanted man, things should move pretty quickly from here on out, with Sampson’s skeletons coming out of the closet and Reacher proving yet again that his solution for a problem is always the most direct route possible, preferably involving someone’s face.
